Jane Austen MMO? Yep!

I am a weird mixture of Gamer and literature nerd. I switch from World of Warcraft to Shakespeare without thinking it odd. But today, I began to question the ability of the two to mix. Someone is trying to Kickstart a Jane Austen MMO.

I did not think very highly of the idea, at first. My two loves have always been separate. I could dream of Mr. Darcy then kill Orcs! However, it peaked my interest. So, I decided to download the prototype they have on their Kickstarter page…. and mock and laugh.

The downloadable prototype is very rough. But to my surprise, there were other people. We all talked, mimicking our best regency period british typing skills — I was kinda fun.

I will get a lot of harassment from my gamer friends, but it was interesting. No killing, No monsters, just small quests and tons of social interactions. Instead of Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence, you have Status, Duty, reputation, kindness, and happiness. Instead of raids, there will be balls. I do worry it would turn into a Jane Austen dating MMO, but it could turn into a interesting social experiment.

The kicked starter has 12 days left, and they are only half funded.  I honestly hope that it will be funded. The prototype was kinda blah, but it has so much potential. It kinda reminded me of a regency period Sims type of MMO, which if done right could be festive – As long as I don’t have to stick to the silly regency period gender roles!

Check them out and let me know what you think.
