NaNoWriMo Day #…Something or another

NaNoWriMo! November is more than half over, and now is the time where I start to rationalize postponing my writing time blocks.

Doing a little research on NaNoWriMo, I know I am not alone. The evil two week mark! This is the point where most people run out of steam and try to go back into their holes. Our holes are warm and cozy, and so un-demanding!

This weekend has been a bust for me, my poor novel has been neglected and excused.  Sitting at the cusp of a huge scene, my poor characters sit patiently for their next move. They are drumming on my computer, yelling at me.  Soon enter my dreams and start singing to me!

“One two Freddy’s coming for you, three four you better lock your door, five six grab a crucifix, seven eight you better stay up late, nine ten never sleep again.” (Okay, hopefully they will not be singing the creepy Freddy Kruger song! Maybe more of an Avenue Q song.)

So pending my characters do not kill me in my sleep for leaving them in limbo for a few days, I need a kick-start. Motivation has never been a problem for me, re-motivation is always much more difficult. There is the mix of failure and doubt that introduces itself when you have to start over again. That comfy hole begins to sparkle with warmth and safety.

How to reboot my writing mission, after having missed a few days, will depend on how I perceive my life. For me, it is all in my state of mind. Rather than seeing the last few days as going back to normal, I see them as being abnormal.  My new normal is one that involves the new writing habits I have acquired. A few missteps in life will not erase the steps you have already taken, they will just require a faster pace to catch up, and unfortunately I have a lot of catch up to do!

How do you re-motivate yourself? How is your NaNoWriMo going?
